Nine Steps to Network Security
Take a moment to consider what information is stored on your network. Then think what harm could be done if any of that information got into the wrong hands, or was lost all together.
Network security is an issue for every business, large or small. The basic processes are the same for all.
To make sure your data stays firmly where it should, our first steps will be to:
1. Configure your server for maximum protection against external threats.
2. Install anti-virus software and updates on your server, PCs and laptops.
3. Set-up your firewall and spam filter according to your particular criteria.
4. Encrypt laptops, memory sticks and other devices taken out of the office.
5. Implement sound backup procedures. Our online back-up and restore facilities give you total peace of mind; if you back-up on tape, we’ll monitor the procedure and check that back-ups have been successful.
6. Set up a system of individual passwords that each member of staff has to change regular intervals. If passwords are hacked, or shared without your knowledge, then you know that there is a strict limit to how long anyone else can use them for.
7. Put a system of authorisations and work groups in place. You can then make sure that people have access only to the information they need. This applies to both internal files and external websites.
8. Set your e-mails to archive automatically into a database that users can’t delete. You will always be able to access past e-mails should you need to look back, even if the sender/receiver have deleted them from their inboxes.
9. Implement systems that track who has logged on, or tried to log on.
Our Nine Steps to Network Security provide a best practice approach to managing your security issues. They keep your data and systems as safe as possible, and are essential when you need to be able to demonstrate that you have secure processes in place as part of your operations.
